Echuca Basketball Stadium Solar System
Complete Installation of 60kW Solar System & 30kW Battery in Echuca
Campaspe Shire Council recently installed a state of the art 60 kW solar system at the Echuca Stadium that stores and uses its own electricity within the 30kW battery system.
One hundred and fifty-three panels feed power to the stadium and to battery storage and the benefits are plentiful.
With most of the power being used at the stadium through the night, the approved 36 kWh battery system now powers the facility from the electricity generated throughout the day.
The batteries enable the stadium to be used ‘off-grid’, providing power in times of a ‘black out’ and disrupted supply which is very beneficial in supporting the stadium as one of Echuca’s emergency relief centres.
Council is leading the way with the first relief centre in regional Victoria to operate off the grid using the solar and battery system. This improves the service to the community with the assurance of power remaining in place during emergency situations. Should a black out occur, the system automatically switches to battery use.
The system also supports the neighbouring Echuca South Oval in its role as a Bushfire Place of Last Resort. Should this site be required in a major bushfire, it is likely that the power supply will be disrupted.
This project also included the installation of an information screen within the stadium to show the community the power usage, whether it be the solar energy captured or the battery usage. For many in the community, this will be their first opportunity to see solar and battery technology in use and the opportunities for it to be installed at other community sites and in the home.
