How does the Powerwall work?

A typical Powerwall system has two components, at least one Tesla Powerwall battery and a Backup Gateway. The Backup Gateway provides energy control and monitoring functions for the Powerwall. It controls the connection of your solar system to the grid, and in the event of a power outage, the Backup Gateway safely disconnects your home from the grid and uses your Powerwall battery to power your home. The Backup Gateway can manage upto ten Powerwalls and receives over-the-air updates for the system.
